e che proprio non capisco, non comprendo come italiano e che devo dire sicuramente danno fastidio a molti italiani. and which I really don’t understand, I don’t understand as an Italian and which I must say certainly bother many Italians.
Abbiamo delle abitudini a quanto pare molto diverse rispetto al resto del mondo, We apparently have very different habits compared to the rest of the world,
quindi ho deciso di spiegarvi perché noi italiani non facciamo certe cose. so I decided to explain to you why we Italians don’t do certain things.
Partiamo subito con la prima, il cappuccino. Let’s start immediately with the first, the cappuccino.
Il cappuccino è, come sapete, caffè. Cappuccino is, as you know, coffee.
È fatto con il caffè espresso, con il latte e la schiuma di latte. It is made with espresso, milk and milk foam.
Ebbene, per noi italiani il cappuccino è una bevanda che si può bere solo a colazione. Well, for us Italians, cappuccino is a drink that can only be drunk for breakfast.

Quindi, se venite in Italia, per favore, non ordinate la pizza con l’ananas. So, if you come to Italy, please don’t order pizza with pineapple.
Non chiedetela. Don’t ask for it.
Mangiatevi piuttosto una buona margherita o un altro dei sapori tipici della pizza italiana. Instead, eat a good margherita or another of the typical flavors of Italian pizza.
No pizza con l’ananas, per favore. No pineapple pizza, please.
Andiamo avanti con un’altra regola non scritta che però tutti gli italiani seguono. Let’s move on with another unwritten rule that all Italians follow.
Niente formaggio sul pesce. No cheese on the fish.
Ed è una regola che può sembrare strana a molti, And it is a rule that may seem strange to many,
perché per noi italiani è normale non mettere il formaggio sul pesce. because for us Italians it is normal not to put cheese on fish.
Che si tratti di pasta con il pesce, che si tratti di pesce fritto, che si tratti di pesce cotto in qualsiasi maniera, Whether it’s pasta with fish, whether it’s fried fish, whether it’s fish cooked in any way,
non si mette il formaggio sul pesce. you don’t put cheese on fish.
Perché? Why?
Perché il pesce ha un sapore delicato, ha un sapore leggero e il formaggio ha un sapore forte. Because fish has a mild flavor, it has a light flavor, and cheese has a strong flavor.
Mettendo il formaggio sopra il pesce si va a coprire il sapore delicato del formaggio e quindi tutto perde di senso. By placing the cheese on top of the fish you cover the delicate flavor of the cheese and therefore everything loses meaning.
Quarta cosa proibita che non va mai fatta, vi chiedo per favore non fatelo mai, il ketchup sulla pasta. Fourth forbidden thing that should never be done, I ask you please never do it, ketchup on pasta.
In Italia il ketchup viene usato solamente sulle patatine fritte e in nessun altro posto. In Italy ketchup is only used on french fries and nowhere else.
Potete azzardare a metterlo sui worcester, va bene, ma non sulla pasta. You can dare to put it on worcesters, that’s fine, but not on pasta.
Sulla pasta ci va il sugo, il sugo rosso fatto con il pomodoro, il formaggio, il formaggio grattugiato e un filo d’olio. The sauce goes on the pasta, the red sauce made with tomato, cheese, grated cheese and a drizzle of oil.
